  • Despite taking the loss, Matt Swarmer pitched extremely well out on the mound. Swarmer allowed just four hits and one run while striking out eight, not backed by run support to win. If you can remember from last season, he was sent to Iowa near the end of the season because of a shortage of pitchers and dominated with seven shutout frames in a win. Maybe the potential is there this season for Swarmer to emerge from an underrated Pitching Prospect to a star-caliber Prospect. We will see.
  • Up north in Tennessee, Trevor Clifton pitched a game of near-perfection allowing just one hit while picking up the win. Clifton went for five innings, allowing one hit, no runs, and one walk while striking out five in a dominant performance for the Smokies. In his third start this season, Clifton settled down with the performance we knew would come after an ERA reaching 7.20 through two games. He is well on his way to another great season if things go right.
  • Jacob Hannemann in Iowa hit a pinch-hit home run in the eighth inning of the Cubs loss, that brought the game within two runs at that point. It was just his third hit of the season after a strong 2017 campaign with Iowa in 80 combined games between two stints.
